These sweet and salty Valentine's Chocolate Covered Pretzels are super simple to make, requiring only 10 minutes and little clean up! Make them for the little loves in your life as a Valentine's party snack, a lunch box treat or after dinner dessert.
These cute Valentine's Chocolate Covered Pretzels are an easy snack to make for your loved ones to celebrate the day. They are fun for the kids to make on their own because they are really simple- and of course, covered in sweet colorful sprinkles!
While you can use any type of pretzel for this recipe, I like using mini twist pretzels because they are naturally heart-shaped. They can even be packaged in treat boxes as gifts for teachers, classmates, coworkers any other special person in your life.
These cute pretzels can be made with chocolate chips or chocolate candy melts and any type of red, pink or white sprinkles or jimmies. We love making these pretzels along with pink creamy fudge and strawberry and nutella filled crescents to show our love on Valentine's Day!
Ingredients
You will need:
- White chocolate chips or white chocolate candy melts
- Mini pretzels, or any other pretzel. I like using mini pretzels because they end up looking like hearts.
- Valentine's Day themed sprinkles.
You'll also need a microwave safe bowl for melting the chocolate, a spoon for stirring it, and parchment or wax paper to eliminate messy counters.
Instructions
This recipes requires only 10 minutes of time and is done in 3 simple steps.
STEP 1: Melt the chocolate chips or candy melts 1 cup at a time in 30 second increments in a microwave safe bowl. Stir between intervals until the chocolate has fully melted. It should take about 1 minute. If it takes longer, shorten the increments to 10 seconds so that it doesn't burn. *If using candy melts, follow the instructions on the package for melting.
Tip: If using chocolate chips, don't melt all the chocolate at once because it could harden before you finish dipping all the pretzels. Chocolate melts can be remelted as needed.
STEP 2: Dip each pretzel into the melted chocolate. Wiggle it around a little bit so that the chocolate fills the gaps. You can also lay the pretzel on parchment paper and use a spoon to scoop the chocolate on and spread it evenly around.
STEP 3: Put the pretzel on parchment or wax paper and sprinkle with the Valentine's Day sprinkles. Repeat steps 1-3 for the remaining pretzels.
Tip: Make sure you add sprinkles before the chocolate hardens.
STEP 4: Once all pretzels are decorated, let them harden for about 10 minutes on the counter or in the fridge before enjoying.
How To Store
Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in a cool place for up to 5 days.
Variations
- Use pink candy melts to make festive pink pretzels.
- Instead of white chocolate, use milk chocolate chips or brown candy melts.
- Make chocolate covered pretzel rods, like these ones we make for Christmas.
Recipe FAQs
The simple answer is to use chocolate candy melts instead of pure chocolate. Once candy melts harden, they stay that way until warmed at a high temperature in the microwave. Candy melts are also a little easier to melt than chocolate and stay melted for a longer time, as they made just for this purpose. White chocolate and milk chocolate chips work well too, but you'll need to be more careful not to burn them when melting. Once chocolate chips burn or harden, they cannot be melted again.
You can make these up to 5 days ahead of time and still have fresh tasting pretzels.
You can refrigerate them if you'd like, especially if you live in a warm climate and have used chocolate chips to coat the pretzels. I don't recommend freezing them.
Store in the fridge or in a cool, dark place to prevent the chocolate from melting.
