These Spider Donuts will be a real treat on Halloween! These spooky donuts are made with chocolate donuts (from scratch or store bought) and iced with a homemade cream cheese frosting. Decorate them with a spider web or festive sprinkles and a spider ring, and you've got fun spider donuts for the kids!
This is an easy recipe for making spider donuts. You can make chocolate donuts from scratch or buy packaged, unglazed donuts from the store and then ice them with a quick homemade cream cheese frosting. Decorate them with black icing spider webs, spider rings, and Halloween sprinkles, and you'll have some happy little kids (or adults) at dessert time this Halloween!
Use store bought chocolate donuts or make them following this recipe with a donut mold.
You can frost them with the recipe I give below or make it easy with store bought frosting.
As long as you decorate them with spider webs or rings, you'll have delicious spider donuts! Plus the kids get to take home a spider ring so they'll be extra happy.

Ingredients
If making the chocolate donuts from scratch you need:
- All purpose flour
- Cocoa powder
- White sugar
- Baking powder and baking soda
- Egg
- Milk
- Plain yogurt
- Butter
- Vanilla extract
If making the frosting from scratch you need:
- Butter
- Cream cheese
- Vanilla extract
- Confectioner's sugar
If not taking the complete homemade route, you'll need 8 premade donuts and a can of vanilla frosting. You'll also need a tube of black frosting and Halloween-themed sprinkles.
Instructions
If you want to make it really quick and easy, buy plain chocolate donuts, canned frosting, black tube icing, and spider rings. If you do this, all you need to do is ice the donuts, squeeze a black spider web outline onto each, and stick a spider ring on top. Easy peasy and you can probably do it about 10 minutes.
If you'd rather make your spider donuts from scratch, here's how to do it:
STEP 1: Make Donuts. Preheat oven to 350ยฐ Fahrenheit. Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and sugar, then add the milk, yogurt, butter, and vanilla extract and whisk well. Combine ingredients in both bowls and whisk until smooth.
STEP 2: Grease the donut pan and spoon the donut mixture into the donut molds (or use a piping bag). Bake for 9 minutes, cool for 10 minutes and transfer to a plate for decorating.
STEP 3: In an electric mixer, beat the butter, cream cheese, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the sugar and continue to beat until smooth. *Skip this step if using canned frosting.
STEP 4: Use a knife to spread the icing on the donuts. Design a spider web on each donut with the tube of black icing. Place a spider ring after the frosting is complete and serve. Alternatively, decorate with Halloween sprinkles.
How To Store Frosted Donuts
Frosted donuts are best eaten the day they were made. Store any leftover donuts at room temperature, covered, for up to 2 days.

These are so cute! Perfect for the kids' Halloween party. The cream cheese frosting is my favorite. I will probably make a second frosting flavor to switch it up. I'll have to find more Halloween-themed sprinkles but I just used some orange ones I found at the store. Thanks for sharing!
