You can totally customize your waffle pops to make any flavor with your favorite sweet toppings. From chocolate to vanilla to strawberry, it all works. Sprinkles and party-themed sprinkle mixes are our favorite toppings. They are a lovely addition to your "sweet" breakfast rotation, along with Nutella stuffed crescent rolls and rainbow cream cheese danishes.
Use small leftover waffles, frozen waffles or homemade ones using a mini Dash waffle maker like this. Or, break apart large Belgian waffles into pieces. You can use any waffle mix or recipe (pancake mixes work, too). Try our protein waffle recipe, oat milk pancake, almond milk pancake or cottage cheese waffle recipe. You can make chocolate waffles, too. They will all make delicious spring-themed waffle pops!
Why You'll Love Waffle Pops
- They're made to your taste- use your favorite waffle flavor and your favorite sweet toppings.
- You can change them up for the season or occasion. Use orange and green melted candy for Halloween, red and green for Christmas, blue for a boy's baby shower, etc.
- They're a fun way to use leftover waffles and get kids to love working in the kitchen!
Ingredients
- Small waffles: leftover or made from scratch using a small waffle maker such as a mini Dash.
- White candy melts
- Chocolate candy melts
- Pink candy melts
- Assorted toppings: sprinkles, nonpareils, powdered sugar
- Skewers or popsicle sticks
Tips from the Chef
- If your candy melts become too thick, stir in a small amount of vegetable shortening or use a candy-thinning product.
- Powdered sugar looks best added right before serving to avoid disappearing into the candy coating.
- Warm waffles can help the skewers adhere better, but room-temperature waffles work fine too.
How To Make Waffle Pops
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the leftover waffles on a baking sheet and warm them for about 3–5 minutes. This step softens the waffles slightly but is not required if you prefer them at room temperature.
- Remove the waffles from the oven, allowing them to cool just enough so you can handle them safely. Insert a skewer or popsicle stick into each waffle.
- Place the white, chocolate, and pink candy melts in separate microwave-safe bowls. Microwave them in 15- to 20-second bursts, stirring thoroughly in between, until smooth and fully melted. *Double Boiler Option: Put the candy melts in heat-safe bowls set over a pot of gently simmering water. Stir until melted.
- Dip each waffle pop into one color of melted candy, turning it to coat as much as you like. Let excess drip off. If desired, wait a moment for the first color to set slightly, then drizzle a second color on top using a spoon or piping bag.
- While the candy coating is still tacky, sprinkle on your choice of toppings—sprinkles, nonpareils, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
How To Store
- For any leftovers, store the fully set waffle pops in an airtight container at room temperature.
- If you used perishable toppings, store in the fridge and consume within 1–2 days.
Recipe FAQs
Yes. You can use any type of waffle, but thicker and smaller waffles make better pops.
Toppings that stick well to the melted candy are sprinkles, crushed nuts, dried fruit pieces, shredded coconut flakes, powdered sugar, and other small ice cream topping like foods.
Instead of candy melts you can use melted white, milk or dark chocolate. I do this for many of my recipes, like chocolate-covered pretzels and homemade chocolate candies.
