This wholesome peanut butter banana smoothie tastes like a peanut butter milkshake. It's perfectly creamy and packed with good for you ingredients, plus some chocolate to keep it sweet! This protein shake is nutritional enough to make a great lunch or breakfast all on it's own. You can add as much or as little protein, depending on your needs.

Another great idea for added protein are these homemade protein pancakes and flaxseed muffins. We also love plain fruit smoothies for lunch and as an after school treat, our favorite being a strawberry banana smoothie with hidden spinach.

Why You'll Love A Peanut Butter and Banana Protein Shake

  • It makes a quick and easy breakfast or lunch!
  • You can customize it to include the right amount of protein for you, plus the right amount of creamy thickness.
  • It's a great way to get some added nutrition to your picky eaters who love peanut butter.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup milk: any dairy milk works, or use almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, or other plant-based milk alternative.
  • 1 large banana
  • 1 cup ice: or more depending on thickness desired.
  • ¼ cup yogurt: plain Greek yogurt works the best.
  • ¼ cup chocolate chips
  • 2 scoops vanilla or chocolate protein powder: more or less, depending on how much protein you're going for.

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender. Process on high speed until smooth, about 60-90 seconds.
  2. Taste, and add more milk or ice depending on thickness desired.

Tips from the Chef

  • If the shake is too thick, add more ice or milk and reblend.
  • Protein shakes are best served immediately. If you need to store extras, keep it in the fridge and reblend it when ready to enjoy.

Optional Add-Ins

To make it even healthier, add a tablespoon or so of:

  • chia seeds
  • ground flaxseed
  • walnuts or almonds
  • hemp seeds
  • unsweetened cocoa powder
  • unsweetened coconut flakes
