Apple Raisin Bread is a delicious, soft and moist quick bread recipe that makes a tasty treat during the autumn months. This bread is fantastic made with those freshly picked orchard apples! It's a recipe inspired by our favorite traditional apple bread, but it's packed with raisins too, along with freshly grated apples and warming spices like in our cranberry cream cheese bread.

There's nothing we love more than making apple-inspired recipes during September and October. If you do too, make sure to check out our easy vegan apple muffins and apple nachos next. And if you love raisin-filled snacks, these carrot raisin muffins are perfect for you.

Why You'll Love Apple Raisin Bread

It's a quick rising loaf that is sweet, moist and makes a great breakfast, snack or dessert.

Easily sneak in healthy raisins for the kids!

Apple bread is a great way to use up a bunch or apples you picked at the orchard.

Ingredients

To make our apple raisin bread we're using:

  • ½ cup milk, softened
  • ½ cup apple cider
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon extract, or use 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large room temperature
  • 2 cups grated or finely chopped apples, washed and peeled
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, or use bread flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • 1 cup raisins

What Are The Best Apples To Use?

Use your favorite sweet or tart apples for a customized flavor. Any apple will work! We love using Fiji, Gala, Granny Smith, Cortland, Jonathan and Honey Crisp.

Tips from the Chef

Use a food processor to chop the apples into very small pieces that resemble grated apples. Using grated apples will keep your bread from falling apart, and will be better if you have picky eaters who might not like the texture of bigger diced apples.

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease with butter and lightly flour the 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Combine the milk, apple cider, melted butter, honey, vanilla extract, cinnamon extract, eggs and grated apples. Mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and salt. Add to the bowl of wet ingredients and stir to combine. Fold in raisins.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top of the loaf is golden brown.
  5. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Recipe FAQs

How To Store Apple Raisin Bread

Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and store at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer keeping, store in the fridge for about 7 days and warm up in the microwave or toaster before enjoying. Apple raisin bread can also be frozen for up to 6 months.

Can I Make 2 Smaller Loaves?

Yes. You can split the batter between 2 pans and make 2 loaves but cook the bread for less time. A smaller loaf should take about 30 minutes.

Why Did My Apple Bread Fall Apart?

If the apples are diced too large, the flour will not adhere to them as it bakes. I use the food processor to chop my apples until they look grated rather than diced. This keeps the bread from falling apart. You can also use a handheld grater rather than chopping them with a knife to make bread that more likely won't fall apart.

This is one of my favorite fall flavored breads! It is something the kids can help me mix and bake, and then enjoy with apple butter.
