Spider Donuts will be a real treat on Halloween! These spooky donuts are made with chocolate donuts and iced with a homemade cream cheese frosting. Decorate them with a spider web or festive sprinkles and a spider ring, and you've got fun spider donuts for the kids!
Preheat oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and sugar, then add the milk, yogurt, butter, and vanilla extract and whisk well. Combine ingredients in both bowls and whisk until smooth. *If using store bought donuts skip steps 1-2.
Grease the donut pan and spoon the donut mixture into the donut molds (or use a piping bag). Bake for 9 minutes, cool for 10 minutes and transfer to a plate for decorating.
In an electric mixer, beat the butter, cream cheese, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the sugar and continue to beat until smooth. *Skip this step if using canned frosting.
Use a knife to spread the icing on the donuts. Design a spider web on each donut with the tube of black icing. Place a spider ring after the frosting is complete and serve. Alternatively, decorate with Halloween sprinkles.
Notes
Homemade donuts are best eaten the day they were made. Store any leftover donuts at room temperature, covered, for up to 2 days.
